Pedestal mailboxes, also referred to as classic mailboxes, are square mailboxes attached to a pole. Both the pole and the mailbox are decorative. The mailbox often has a peak at the top, making it take on the appearance of a house. Pedestal mailboxes need to be mounted to a hard surface, such as brick or concrete. It is best to mount the pedestal mailbox on an elevated surface so that the base does not become damaged from water or gardening tools. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
- 1
Set the post of the mailbox on the concrete in the location where you wish to mount it. Use a pencil to mark the location of the screw holes in the base onto the concrete. Remove the post and set it aside.
2Use a hammer drill to make holes through each of the four marks. The holes need to be at least 5/8 inch deep. Measure from the tip of the bit up if you are not sure how deep 5/8 inch is. Clean the dust out of each hole when you are done drilling.
3Insert one supplied anchor into each hole. Make sure the anchor is positioned with the lead shield up.
4Place a 3/8-inch bolt onto one of the anchors. Hit the head of the bolt with a hammer to drive the anchor down to the bottom of the pilot hole. Repeat with the other three anchors.
5Line up the holes in the mailbox post with the anchors. Place one of the supplied hex head bolts into each hole and use a hex wrench to tighten the bolts in place.
6Place the mailbox onto the post. Line up the holes in the bottom of the mailbox with the holes in the top of the post. Secure the mailbox in place with the supplied screws.
