Foosball, or table soccer, originated in Western Europe and became popular in the United States after World War II. In 1970, the Tornado table, built in Dallas, Texas, entered the market. Competitive players encounter this type of table in tournaments sponsored by the International Table Soccer Federation, the United States Table Soccer Association and the United States Table Soccer Federation. Amateurs can play on these professional-quality tables in their own homes or on coin-operated versions at bars and pubs. The Tornado set-up differs from other styles of Foosball tables in that each side has three goalies, instead of one.
Instructions
Attaching the Legs
- 1
Place the table face down on the shipping box or a carpet. This protects the surface from scratches.
2Remove the washers and nuts from one leg.
3Insert the bolts of the table leg into the pre-drilled holes on the bottom of the table.
4Attach the nuts and washers to the bolts and tighten them with your fingers. Repeat the process with the remaining three legs.
5Tighten all of the nuts with a wrench. To ensure a well-balanced table, do not use the wrench until all of the legs have been attached and tightened with your fingers.
6Turn the table right-side up. The table is heavy, so get a friend to help you.
Attaching the Ball-Return Tube and Foosman Rods
- 7
Attach the ball-return tube to the ball box using a screw driver and four screws.
8Insert the bearings into the rod holes, working from the inside of the table.
9Insert a rod through a bearing hole on one side of the table. Each rod contains holes to attach the players. Ensure that you insert the proper type of rod into each bearing hole. Working from one end of the table, the number of holes on the rods should be three, two, three, five, five, three, two, three. The four three-person rods come in two different lengths: the short rods are for the goalies.
10Wipe the rod with silicone.
11Thread a black bumper, with the hole side facing the side of the table, onto the rod.
12Add the appropriate number of players onto the rod. The players come in two different colors, black and yellow, for example. Working from black's goal post, the order of colors should be black, black, yellow, black, yellow, black, yellow, yellow. The yellow players face the black goal, and the black players face the yellow goal.
13Thread another bumper, with the holes facing the table wall, onto the rod.
14Push the rod so that it slides out of the bearing on the other side of the table. Continue this process until all of the rods, bumpers, and players have been inserted.
Securing the Men to the Rod
- 15
Align the hole that runs through one player with a hole on the rod.
16Place the rod support block near the player so that the rod does not move.
17Insert a roll pin and hammer it lightly. The roll pin should lie flush with the player's front and back. Continue until all players have been secured to the rods.
Finishing Touches
- 18
Screw the score posts into the table. At the black goal, use the rod with four black discs and one yellow disc. At the yellow goal, use the rod with four yellow discs and one black disc.
19Push gently on the table to see if it is balanced. If not, use the provided floor shims by attaching them under the shorter leg.
20Wipe the table with a clean, damp cloth.
