Turning a Foosball Table Into a Usable Tabletop

Foosball, or table soccer is a game that takes up a lot of floor space in your home. While the size depends on your particular game table, sizes measuring 42 inches tall and 32 inches wide are not uncommon. All of this is unused space when you're not playing a foosball game. Adding a tabletop to the foosball table allows you to reclaim that space and use it for a variety of other activities, such as playing cards or eating a meal.

Measure the length and width of the foosball table along its outer edges. Record the measurements.

Use your foosball table dimensions to mark the sizes on the plywood. Make guidelines on the surface of the plywood using a pencil. Use the circular saw to cut the sheet of wood to the necessary measurements.

Pick a color of felt that matches the decor of the room or resembles the color of a gaming table, such as forest green or black.

Measure the length of felt needed to cover one side of the plywood sheet and add 2 inches to this measurement. Cut the strip of felt and trim the 72-inch width to match the width of the plywood.

Apply lines of wood glue on one side of the plywood, parallel to the longest edge. Make lines of glue 5 inches apart until you run out of space. Lay the strip of felt evenly on top of the plywood and glue.

Smooth the felt strip flat with an open palm. Fold the added felt length on either edge of the plywood toward the opposite side of the plywood. Allow time for the glue to dry.

Flip the sheet of plywood over to the bare side. This is the top of the table. Place glue along the edges where the felt flaps are. Adhere the felt flaps to the plywood.

Measure another strip of felt for the top of the table. Add 2 inches to the length and width of your plywood measurement. This allows the felt covering to wrap around the edges of the tabletop to create a seamless appearance.

Line the top of the table with wood glue, spacing the lines 5 inches apart and parallel to the long side of the wood. Drape the felt strip over the tabletop evenly and smooth it across the surfaces. Pull opposite edges of the felt simultaneously to make it as tight and flat against the wood surface as possible. Allow the glue to dry.

Flip the tabletop over to work on the underside. Place glue along all four edges. Pull the dangling felt corners tightly over the edge of the wood and press down on the glue. Work on the shorter edges first. Tuck the corners of the short edge of felt beneath the longer edges of felt when these are glued down. Allow the glue to dry. Use the opposite side as the top of the table and place it on top of the foosball table whenever a tabletop is needed.
