How to Decorate Home Living Rooms

How to Decorate Home Living Rooms

Whether you are decorating your new home's living room or redecorating your existing home's living room, this is a project that is essential to your home's overall image. The living room is most often the first room that you and your guests see when entering your home and should be inviting and comforting to all who see it. Although the task may seem a bit overwhelming, as long as you keep a few things in mind when choosing what to use, your living room will come out fine. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    1

Decide on a theme to use in your living room. This includes the style and colors you want to incorporate. Whether you want traditional, modern or another type of decor, the style and colors should complement the kitchen's colors if the room can be seen from the kitchen. Otherwise, it should complement any room that adjoins it.

    2

Choose a focal point to have in the room. For instance, if your fireplace is unique and you would like to have it as the focal point, position the furniture so that everyone who is sitting down has a full view of the fireplace without needing to turn around. On the other hand, if your living room is going to be used as a "television room," use the TV as the focal point.

    3

Purchase furniture with the same theme in mind. If you purchase a modern-style coffee table and end table set with a French country-style sofa and loveseat, your living room will look off-balanced. Be consistent with the style and theme of the room.

    4

Use the walls to your advantage by hanging a collection of some sort on them. Some ideas include a collection of picture frames, mirrors, paintings or other artwork. Do not clutter the walls, but place them so that they complement the focal point in the room whether it is the fireplace, the TV or another object.

    5

Add flowers and artificial plants in different areas. Tall, artificial plants go well in the corners of the room, while real flowers and smaller plants go well as a centerpiece on the coffee table or the end tables.

    6

Spice up plain colored furniture by adding one or two patterned pillows on the sofa and/or loveseat. These patterned pillows can be animal print, plaid, striped or any pattern that incorporates the color of the furniture and adds texture.
