Picnic Table Specifications

Picnic Table Specifications

Picnic tables are commonly found in parks around the country. Picnic tables come in a variety of materials that range from plastic and wood to steel and concrete. Though the materials often differ, many specifications are similar for most picnic tables. There are some slight variations. Does this Spark an idea?

Picnic Table Height

Table and counter heights are regulated by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). According to the ADA, heights for tables must range between 28 inches and 34 inches above the ground. Average picnic table height is typically in the middle of that range, about 30 to 31 inches.

Seat Height

The seat height is as important as the overall height because it determines the amount of space available for legs between the table and the seat. Common heights for the picnic table benches are about 18 or 19 inches from the ground. This leaves a space of about 11 to 13 inches between the table and the bench.

Seat Width and Length

Seat widths are typically around one foot wide. The length of the seat differs, based on the specific picnic table. Most picnic tables match bench length with the length of the table, usually 6 or 8 feet.

Table Width and Length

Table width is usually about 28 to 30 inches. The length is usually the same as the benches. Common lengths for picnic tables are either 6 or 8 feet. Tables that accommodate wheelchairs have a table length about two feet longer than the benches, to allow the wheelchair to fit at the end of the table.
